The Oliphant Family

of Middle Tennessee

These pages are about the descendants of James Oliphint of Rutherford County, Tennessee. James was born in North Carolina between 1771 and 1775. He was in Tennessee by at least 1797, the year after Tennessee became a state, when he married Polly Compton in Davidson County. The family later spread to Williamson, Dickson, and Davidson Counties of Tennessee and elsewhere over the last 200+ years.

In the middle part of the 1900s, Thomas, Paul, and Ward Oliphant began corresponding with family members to collect a history of the family. Their original correspondence and writings are available here, as well as the research that has been continued since that time.
