Obituary for William O. "Bill" Baker

William O. "Bill" Baker Jr., 79, of Lebanon, died Saturday, Jan. 3, in Eugene.
A memorial service was held Jan. 7 at the First Assembly of God Church in Lebanon with private burial at the Powell Cemetery.
He was born Oct. 28, 1924, in Nashville, Tenn., the son of William O. and Wallace (Oliphant) Baker.
He attended and graduated from David Lipscomb University, Harding University, Pepperdine University and Phillips Divinity School. He worked as a pastor in the Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ and Christian Church, taught two years of elementary school, and sold insurance in the Perris, Calif. area.
He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Lebanon.
He retired to Lebanon in 1990 and stayed active in the local church through teaching and substitute preaching.
He married Eleanor Yake on Sept. 12, 1950, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The couple raised four children.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Baker of Eugene; sons David T. Baker, of Missoula, Mont., Jonathan E. Baker, of Eugene and Stephen C. Baker, of Goleta, Calif.; daughter Anna L. Bardon, of Stanwood, Wash.; brother Robert M. Baker, of Franklin, Ky.; sister Juanita Russell of Nashville, Tenn.; one grandson and four granddaughters.
